Abstract

An European Geopark has to support the economic development of its region focusing on the geological heritage and on the correct management of natural resources. The development of a reliable geological model points out the synergy between geodiversity, biodiversity and culture, especially when their relationships can be explained to visitors. To achieve this target, the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park promoted a strategic partnership between local and national institutions. This paper describes the experience carried out by a multidisciplinary team to upgrade the geological and hydrogeological knowledge of Park’s land. The re-elaboration and analysis of geological data derived from the CARG (Geological CARtography) project allowed the hydrogeological mapping of the area. With regard to the kinematic interpretation of such data, the paper shows the potential of this tool to delineate and simplify the main characteristics of groundwater flow at regional scale.
